# Send an SMS

> Submit an individual SMS message with optional idempotency.

`POST /v1/businesses/{businessId}/sms/messages`

Required permission: `sms.message.send`.

Provide an authorized sender, E.164 destination, classification, and either
inline `message` text or a template reference. Durable acceptance is not
delivery confirmation.

Merchant-visible statuses include `queued`, `sent`, `delivered`, and `failed`.
`sent` means provider submission accepted — not that the handset received the message.
